Who We Are

Philosophy

Whole School Approach

Philosophy

For the last 35 years, TFA has  remained committed to serving students with ADHD, processing & memory issues, and a variety of learning disabilities, including dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia. We believe these unique learners benefit from the specialized, individualized instruction and immersive hands-on experiences we offer, nurturing both achievement and social-emotional success.

Structure

Whole School Approach

The Academy's structured environment provides incentives and helpful guidance for students as they navigate school-related challenges. We help kids develop better habits of learning that promote confidence, self efficacy, and personal responsibility.

The TFA Difference

Positive Culture

Traditional settings for those with learning differences often focus on negative consequences rather than encouraging students  to embrace practices that instill good learning habits.  TFA's unique school structure and approach is designed to encourage students to strive for personal goal achievement while bolstering their ability to effectively self-navigate.

Individualized Attention

Our teachers provide students with individualized attention each and every day. This is possible because of TFA's unique structure, our faculty's collective wealth of special education experience, and an extremely favorable student-to-teacher ratio (5:1 in Lower School core academic classes, 7:1 average in the Upper School).

Communication

We believe good communication is critical to student success. On a daily basis in every class, goal achievement is documented and shared with each student in a structured and consistent manner. This information is shared with parents every school day, keeping them continually informed.

Family Time

TFA appreciates the impact school has on family life. Homework Hall, a key feature of daily life at TFA, is designed both for faculty to better understand students’ comprehension of subject material AND to reduce the burden of homework management for parents.

Conferencing

Phone or in-person conferences may be requested by parents as needed, and at least twice each year teachers seek to schedule conferencing opportunities with parents. Administrators and key staff are also just a phone call away when you need them.

Charting Progress

We understand that waiting for months on end to learn how your child is doing in school is simply unacceptable. This is why we issue weekly progress reports and provide report cards every 6 weeks. Assessment data is also collected and shared at the end of each academic year  so parents may better assess growth.
